Position Description for DRE
The First Unitarian Church of Toledo is prominent Unitarian-Universalist congregation in Northwest Ohio and a force for religious liberal thought for the region. We are currently seeking a part time Director of Religious Education (DRE):
- Hours: 20/week, focused on the RE program of the church
- Reports to the Senior Minister of the church
- Works closely with the RE Council and its chair to achieve the RE goals of the church
- Primary duties: designing curriculum, recruiting volunteers, managing the RE budget, and maintaining supplies and records
While the Adult RE programs have been vibrant, the participation in Children’s RE is somewhat below average for congregations our size. We seek a dynamic individual who can revitalize and grow the children's RE program. This will involve designing exciting curricula and recruiting of enthusiastic volunteers. As a result the DRE will be expected to work closely with congregation members, particularly with the parents of children in the RE programs.
The ideal candidate for this position will be one with experience in religious education program development combined with a strong background in Unitarian Universalism. Experience in directing RE programs will also be desirable. At a minimum we seek an individual with some experience in education and some familiarity with Unitarian Universalist principles. The individual must also be personable and have good communication skills.
How to Apply: People with disabilities, people of color, Hispanic/Latino/Latina and B/G/L/T/I/Q/Q candidates are encouraged to apply. Send cover letter and résumé – indicating “DRE Director” in the subject line – to jillr@uutoledo.org, or to DRE Search Committee, First Unitarian Church of Toledo, 3205 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, OH 43614. E-mail submissions preferred. To ensure full consideration please apply before July 1, 2011. Review of applications will begin shortly thereafter.
Benefits: We have generous workplace policies and follow UUA guidelines for compensation in our region. We pay a contribution towards health insurance premiums and towards retirement. We are a great place to work and are seeking to increase the diversity of our staff. The First Unitarian Church of Toledo is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
