New to Unitarian Universalism?
Starting on March 13th, we are offering a series to explore Unitarian Universalism. If you're interested in the history of our faith and our church, we encourage you to join us for the First Unitarian Exploration Series.
Coffee with Visitors
On the second and fourth Sundays of the month, following our 11:00am service, our greeters will meet with visitors to share a little information about our congregation. Visitors are encouraged to attend to learn the basics about Unitarian Universalism and to familiarize yourself with our church, lifespan faith development classes, child care, coffee hour and much more. This is a great way to help you feel more comfortable with us and to give us an opportunity to learn a little bit about you as well. Feel free to stop in the Fellowship Hall to get a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea and then join us. We look forward to meeting with you!
Expectations of Membership
First Unitarian Church of Toledo is committed to offering our members superb worship services, opportunities for personal faith development and religious education, an open and welcoming environment, and caring support and outreach.
FIRST UU ALSO ASKS FOR A FEW COMMITTMENTS FROM ITS MEMBERS:
REGULAR ATTENDANCE AT WORSHIP SERVICES
By attending as regularly as possible you will not only become a familiar face in our UU social network but you will be contributing to your own personal faith development through our thought provoking sermons.
SERVICE TO THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH
From office work to grounds work and Religious Education to being part of the kitchen crew, the volunteer efforts of our members keep our church running. There are many opportunities to get involved at First UU. You may consider volunteering in the nursery once a month, helping with RE classes, assisting at the monthly church clean up, volunteering in the office, helping prepare/serve at coffee hour, or serving on one of the many committees that need creative thinkers. Contact Chris Brown at cdlbrown@verizon.net or any member of the membership committee to find out where you can lend a hand.
SERVICE TO THE LARGER COMMUNITY
First Unitarian Church of Toledo prides itself on working for the greater good of the community. The church puts its faith into action by participating in programs that benefit those outside of our congregation regardless of faith and beliefs. By taking an active role in programs such as Habitat for Humanity and the Interfaith Council, as well as many other social justice groups, First Unitarian is able to make a positive impact on society at many different levels. In addition to providing awareness of local, national, and global issues the church encourages its members to participate in and bring awareness to any beneficial program they may feel passionately about. First Unitarian recognizes that every individual can make a difference.
FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION TO OUR SELF-SUSTAINING CHURCH
As a self-sustaining congregation, First Unitarian of Toledo does not receive financial support from the UUA or any other governing body. We depend solely on the financial generosity of our members and friends. Since each family’s financial situation is unique, members and friends are asked to pledge 2-5% of adjusted gross income for each full fiscal year. This is our fair share level of giving. To us, true stewardship means the responsible maintenance of a self-sustaining community. Click here for more information.
